Landscape Photographer of the Year 2010

Classic View.          Commended.

Seaburn. Commended in the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards, Take a View 2010

Take a View, the annual Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, has become the benchmark that I measure my work against these days. The standards are very high and visiting the exhibition is one of the highlights of my year.

This year, due to work commitments I didn’t have very much new work to enter so I resorted to reworking some of my older work and making sure my latest shots were up to scratch.

I have always liked this shot of the Roker Light taken over Parson’s Rock but it was never shortlisted on previous years. I decided to rebuild it from the original file for a result that while not being substantially different, perhaps reflects improvements in my post processing techniques over the years.

I have included at the right a copy of the older rendition for comparison and I think the improvements are clear to see.

Your View.         Commended.

Lindisfarne Storm. Commended in the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards, Take a View 2010

Incoming Storm, Lindisfarne.

This one was at least a new entry. Taken last year over the sands near Jack Mathison’s Bank, I decided to make a Monochrome version to add drama to the scene.

Once again I have included the original for comparison.

My only regret in losing the colour from this image was the loss of the delicate rainbow at the bottom right of the frame.

The other image that was shortlisted this year was another shot reworked in monochrome, from the same shoot that earned me the Second Prize in 2008.
